My name is Elisa, I'm 42 years old and I live in Palermo, Sicily (Italy)… I've been making OOAK dolls since I was about 16 years old, when after a few simple attempts I discovered Cernit and I fell in love with it! I think polymer clays are great… when I have a piece of clay in my hands… I get so excited!… I have never taken a doll making or modeling course… my only teacher was a doll making book found in an art store in my city for a few years back….
I love childhood and I love dolls… I can create baby dolls and so many expressions with just my hands! I want my dolls to look like real children, pensive and innocent... that's why I try to capture in my creations a specific moment in a child's life... a girl who is waiting for her mother... or a little ballerina who has her turn to go on stage... I want, so that my doll has a “drop of life” in the eyes ... a soul ... I am proud when people look at them and say: “she is going to get up!” or… “she seems to be looking at me!”….
My favorite themes are older kids - OOAK Girls - about 8/10 years old in 24/30 inches, I only use the best materials: mohair and human wigs, German glass eyes, cute and small Italian leather shoes… I love how to design, and make their dresses by hand, using silk, velvet, chiffon, lace… My dolls often have vintage and valuable furniture or objects: a silver brush, wooden chairs, a handmade pillow, and so on….
My inspiration comes from the real world or from fantasy, fairy tales, pictures that I find… or from my imagination! I'm going to create a special collection of famous paintings and illustrations!
I really love making dolls… now I can't imagine my life without this hobby!!!
I participate in exhibitions all over the world such as New York (Magnum Opus Show), Florida (IDEX), Chicago (IDA by Hellman Gallery), Massachusetts (International Show by Dollery), St. Petersburg (Doll Time), Moscow ( Doll Salon, Art of Dolls at Manege, International Show by Wachtanoff Gallery), Ukraine (Doll Salon in Kiev), Prague (Doll Prague Exhibition), Baku (Fusion Doll), Riga (European Doll A).
